Introduction
If you’re working off-site you might find that you need access to resources that are stored on the Landscape Ontario (LO) network. To access these files you will have to connect to LO’s Virtual Private Network (VPN).
This guide will show you how to install and configure Tunnelblick to be able to connect to LO’s VPN.
Requirements
This guide assumes that Tunnelblick isn’t installed or configured yet. If it is, please see the How to Connect to the LO Network Remotely from Mac guide.
In order to set up access to LO’s VPN you will need the following:
- Tunnelblick Application Installer
- OpenVPN Certificate
Steps
Installing Tunnelblick on your system
To start, send an email to Support and request an OpenVPN Certificate for the LO VPN.
You won’t need the certificate until near the end of this setup guide, but it may take a bit of time to obtain.
Download the Stable version of Tunnelblick for your Mac system.
Open your Downloads folder from Finder and run it by double-clicking it.
Double-click the Tunnelblick icon to begin the install process.
MacOS may give a warning about this application coming from the internet. Press Open.
Verify that all settings are selected correctly and press Continue.
If prompted for an administrator password, enter your Mac’s password to continue installing to the Applications folder.
If prompted about icon placement, select Place Icon Normally.
You should now have a shortcut to the OpenVPN GUI
Configuring OpenVPN to connect to the LO network
When you receive your VPN certificate it will be an ovpn-file.
Download this file to your system. It should be found in your Downloads folder in Finder.
Double-click it to install it to Tunnelblick.
If prompted, choose to install for Only Me.
